Where are we located?

We are located on Straight Wharf in town. It’s the pier right across from the Grand Union parking lot and directly across from the Hyline ferry slip and ticket office. We are at Slip 1018. You will see our big white and blue sign that says “MONOMOY CHARTERS.”

Where do we park?

We do not have private parking at the pier. We wish we did, but parking in downtown Nantucket is scarce. We recommend that you call a taxi to get to the pier for your trip. Taxis are reliable and inexpensive. You can even schedule them to pick you up at the end of your trip so there is no waiting for your ride when you're ready to go home.

Parking on Nantucket is NOT easy and requires plenty of advance planning. The number one reason our guests are late for their charter is because they were "looking for a parking spot." Save yourself the frustration and losing out on your fishing time by grabbing a cab, the NRTA bus, or taking your bikes - you'll be glad you did.

The NRTA shuttle bus is a great way to go! It’s easy, cheap and takes you right to Washington St – a 2 minute walk to our slip on Straight Wharf. For info, check out http://www.shuttlenantucket.com/.

What about life jackets?

We are required by the Coast Guard to keep life jackets on the boat however they are meant to be worn in the water - not on the boat. If you would like to wear a life jacket (or have your child wear one) on board, please bring your own.

Can you take more than 6 passengers?

YES! We are your best bet for large groups whether it’s a corporate get-together, wedding/bachelor party, company meeting, or family reunion. We can accommodate groups of up to 22 people. Our spacious cabin, deck, and fully enclosed restroom offer comfortable seating in the sun or shade. We can also help out if you would like to have your trip catered.

Seasickness and my charter?

Due to the size and stability of our boat, it is rare that our guests experience sea sickness; however, now and again it can happen to the best of us. Obviously, if you are prone to motion sickness, please take appropriate measures (i.e. Dramamine) prior to your trip.

Can I mount my fish?

Catch a trophy? Want to take it home? We offer artificial replica mounting that is second to none. And what's best yet is the fish lives on in the water and on your wall. Let your captain or mate know you are looking for a mount so that he gets the proper info from your catch.

What can I expect to catch out there?
Fishing varies from day to day and season to season. Our trips are time and species specific (see our Rates & Schedule page), however, if you have something special in mind, please don’t hesitate to ask when you book your trip. We can probably set something up for you.

What are the age limits on the boat?
There are no age restrictions, if you have young children, please keep in mind that they often do best on the shorter fishing trips or our Critter Cruise.

I’ve never fished before. What experience is necessary?
None. We will help you with everything from getting onto the boat, to landing your first trophy fish. Just relax and have fun – it’s not brain surgery!

Can I eat the fish I catch?
We highly encourage catch and release at Monomoy Charters, however, if you are planning on eating your catch, we are happy to clean your fish for you. The mates work for tips and are always happy to filet your fish for you.

Do you offer gift certificates?

Yes, just send us an email or give us a call.

Do you offer burials at sea or ash scattering?

Yes, as long as our boat is in service (not in winter storage). Please call us for information.

If you plan on riding a bike, there are lots of bike racks available in town so you can be sure to find a good spot to lock your bike.

If you absolutely have to drive and park, there are no guarantees that you will find a parking spot, but the safest bet is the Town Parking Lot (about a 5 minute walk to our slip on Straight Wharf). Please keep in mind; it is often full by 8am so unless you are on the 7am trip, plan accordingly to find a spot.

What time should I be at the boat for my trip?
AFTER YOU PARK YOUR CAR, please arrive at the boat about 10-15 minutes before our scheduled departure time. This gives you time to get your food, drinks and bags stowed on board so we can leave on time.

What is your CANCELATION POLICY?

We will accept cancellations or rescheduling up to four (4) days before your scheduled trip with no penalty charge. (For example, if you trip is departing at 10am on Friday morning, you must cancel by 10am Monday). Please note, if you want to reschedule your trip inside the cancelation period, it is based upon availability (if the time slot you want is booked, you are still responsible for your initial reservation).

From four (4) days out until forty-eight (48) hours prior to your scheduled departure, the cancellation fee is fifty (50%) of the cost of your charter.

After that, there are no cancellations and no refunds (your credit card will be charged for the full amount of the trip).  This includes no-shows.

When you charter a boat it is for the whole boat, the captain, the crew and the time slot reserved.  We do not double book or keep a list of people who can take your place. We will keep our commitment to you and expect you to keep your commitment to us.

What if the weather is bad?

The only exception to the cancellation policy will be due to severe weather, which will be the Captain’s decision. This decision will be made on the day of departure, no later than 30 minutes before the trip time. If the Captain deems it is unsafe to do the trip, you will have the opportunity to reschedule your trip or to receive a full refund.

The following conditions WILL NOT result in the Captain calling the trip:

  1. light rain,

  2. rain clouds in the sky,

  3. a forecast of a possible rain shower (we all know how reliable forecasts are),

  4. cool weather/ hot weather,

  5. you can’t get your kids/ husband/ wife/ mother or father-in-law out of bed,

  6. someone in your party is not feeling well, or

  7. you decide to do something different that day.

These might sound funny, but we hear these excuses year in and year out.

PLEASE NOTE:  If it is raining outside of your house, hotel room or in town, it does not mean that it is raining on the water where we will be fishing.  We monitor the radar and radios all the time and will make our decisions accordingly.  Ten minutes of passing rain is not something to get upset about on a 2 to 6 hour charter. Don’t let it ruin your vacation.
